Ragdoll Kitten Supplies
Below are the products that we personally use (and love) for our Ragdoll Kittens and cats! We recommend keeping some of the items the same for your new kitten, especially the food and litter. Having items that your kitten is already familiar with will help make their transition into your home easier and a little less intimidating.
I will let you know what type of food your kitten is currently eating since it may vary between litters. Typically, our kittens are eating a 50/50 mix of IAMs Kitten & IAMs Hairball Formula. We like this combination because the Hairball Formula has high fiber content, which promotes nice digestion during weaning. Be sure to keep your kitten on the SAME diet for the first 2-3 weeks in their new home to avoid digestive issues. After the initial few weeks, you can then slowly transition or add to their diet.
Whole food treats and meal toppers are an excellent way to add more protein and nutrition into your kittens’s diet. They also help keep meal-time fun and exciting. Here are some of our favorite treats and meal toppers:
Freeze Dried Chicken
This is the #1 favorite treat of all the cats and kittens at our house after trying dozens over the years. The only ingredient is chicken and the kitties love them!
Freeze-Dried Chicken Hearts
These are another favorite treat at our house. Hearts are an excellent source of taurine for your kitty. I cut them into 4-6 pieces so they are easier for our cats and kittens to eat.
Pet Carrier
Please bring a pet carrier for your kitten to travel home in. I use this carrier to transport my cats and kittens. If traveling by plane, be sure to check the carrier size dimensions allowed by your airline.
Cat Tree/Condo
I recommend looking around for a cat tree that you like. Click here for a link to some of our favorite cat condos.
Scratching Post
It is really important to have enough scrathing posts throughout your home. This tall scratcher is a great option. We keep this one next to our couch.
Litter Box
Once old enough, all of our cats and kittens use jumbo-sized Catit Litter Boxes. They are priced well and large enough for full grown Ragdolls to use.
Litter
We prefer using unscented clay litter. Our kittens transition to using clay at about 8 weeks old. This one has great odor control and is priced well.
Litter Scoop
Make sure to also pick up a litter scoop for your new kitten! Any litter scoop should do. This is the one we use. It is nice quality and easy to sanitize.
FERA Pet Probiotic
This is our favorite feline probiotic. It can be sprinkled onto wet or dry food. It helps keep stools firmer and less smelly.
Check with your veterinarian to see if this supplement is right for your cat or kitten.
Jarrow Probiotic
This is another one of our favorite probiotics that can be used for cats. We sprinkle ½ - 1 capsule onto their food daily in addition to the FERA probiotic.
Check with your veterinarian to see if this supplement is right for your cat or kitten.
Immune Support
We love this supplement that was recommended to us by our veterinarian. It helps maintain a healthy immune system, especially during periods of stress.
Check with your veterinarian to see if this supplement is right for your cat or kitten.
Silicone Mat
We keep a silicone mat underneath our food bowls and water fountain. It collects spilled food or water and can easily be cleaned.
Water Fountain
A water fountain will encourage your kitten to drink more since cats prefer running water. This specific water fountain is our favorite since it’s wireless (so the kittens can’t chew on the cord).
Cat Shampoo
Cats should only be bathed when visibly dirty or oily. This is our favorite cat shampoo for occasional bath time. It does an excellent job of cleaning the coat while still being gentle on their skin.
De-Greaser
Some Ragdolls (not all) are prone to occasionally getting greasy on the base of their tail and their back. When needed, we apply this paste to the greasy area a few minutes before bathing them as normal.
Butter Comb
We prefer a metal butter comb instead of a brush for regularly combing our Ragdolls’ coats.
Vacuum
This cordless Dyson vacuum has been a great investment. Although expensive, we use it daily and it makes a huge difference in the amount of cat hair around the house.
Pet Hair Remover (Furniture)
We use this gadget for removing pet hair from our furniture, especially our couch. It does an amazing job at picking up loose hair.
Pet Hair Remover (Clothing)
These sticky rollers are a must if you own any animal that sheds. We keep multiple throughout our home and in our car.
All-Purpose Cleaner
We do not use traditional cleaning brands, like Clorox or Lysol, in our home. They are harmful to cats. Branch Basics is our preferred every-day cleaning product.
Disinfectant
For deep cleaning of the cat areas and litter boxes, we use this veterinary-grade disinfectant. It is hydrogen peroxide based and nontoxic to cats. You can buy it in wipe or liquid form.
Odor Removing Gel
We keep a Kanberra air purifying gel in each of our cat rooms, next to the litter boxes. They are made with Tea Tree Essential Oil and really help to absorb odor.
And of course, toys are a must! The following are some of our favorite toys:
Amazon, Chewy, PetSmart, Petco and Target are all great places to look for fun cat toys.
Springs
My cats and kittens love playing fetch and chasing these springs! They are a definite favorite.
Cat Teaser
You can never have enough teaser toys! This sparkler teaser wand is a popular teaser at our house.
